Staying hydrated is key to keeping our cravings in check. Before reaching for that second piece of pie or that bag of chips, try chugging a glass of water. When our body is dehydrated, it can trick us into thinking we’re hungry, not thirsty. Down a glass of water and wait 15 minutes. If you’re still hungry, go ahead and grab a (healthy) snack. If you’re no longer hungry, you were probably just dehydrated and should remember to drink more.
I’ve heard many people say that they don’t like the taste of water. If you don’t like something, change it! Infusing your water with natural ingredients is a great way to stay properly hydrated and healthy. Even though I happen to like the taste of pure water, I use the Savvy Infusion water bottle to spice up my hydration routine. When you purchase this water bottle, they also send you a recipe booklet but I tend to like simple infusion using ingredients I have on hand. Here are some of my favorites:
– Green Tea – throw 2-4 tea bags into your water. Stick it in the fridge overnight and you’ll have trendy cold brewed iced green tea to enjoy the next day!
– Strawberry Pineapple- chunk pineapple and quarter strawberries. If you don’t have fresh fruit, use frozen. Pop the fruit into the infuser, shake and enjoy!
– Cucumber Mint – Because sometimes I like to feel like I’m at a fancy spa, even when I am at the office. Peel and slice 1/4 of a cucumber. tear mint leave to release flavor. Throw both into the infuser, shake, and sip! Also great without mint. (No picture shown because I tend to drink this faster than the speed of picture-taking)
I also want to try making an orange and rosemary or a pomegranate rosemary infused water. Let us know if you try anything spectacular! We love new recipes.
Another great ways to stay hydrated during is to play a drinking game. Pick a word(s) of the day and every time you hear that word, drink up! For example, tomorrow is Thanksgiving, every time you hear the word “turkey” or “football” chug a glass of water. You’re bound to be hydrated by dinner time. This is also a great way to combat a hangover from too much wine and holiday spirits.
For all you tech lovers, there is a water bottle that syncs with your iPhone to track how much water you are drinking throughout the day. HidrateSpark will glow to alert you to drink more water and make recommendations on how much you should be consuming. It’s available in 7 great colors. A limited number of bottles are available for their January 2016 shipment so pre-order now.
In the words of our dear Katie, HYDRATE OR DIE. How are you going to stay hydrated this holiday season?
